This Weird Hack Can Give You Gigabytes Of Free Space On Your iPhone

Apple fans are loyal and stick to the new version of iPhone year after year. Still, they do have their fair share of complaints. One of these biggest complaints has been the issue of iPhone storage. Never having enough space whenever you need to capture a moment or make a video. The Apple users can rest easy and no longer have to worry about the storage issue on their phones with this simple hack.

The error we are so used to seeing:

(Source: Boredom Therapy)

We’ve wanted to do this a number of times over the years.

(Source: Boredom Therapy)

That time is long gone. You can follow this useful trick to free up space but first, you need to have a few Mbs of space available on your phone. You can check the remaining storage by going into your settings. Tap “General” and then go into “Storage & iCloud Usage”. You will see something like this.

(Source: Boredom Therapy)

Now that you have a few Mbs of space, the next step is to open your iTunes application and find the longest movie you can find. The longer the better. Once you’ve found it, press rent. Not to be alarmed, you won’t have to pay for it as you don’t have the storage to download such a movie. A notification will pop up, informing you of low storage. At this point, you need to go to the settings from the popup notification box and see the magic happen.

Once you’re in the settings, go to the screen where you can check the total and available storage. You will see that trying to download such a large file will have cleared up the cache and space you never knew you had on your phone will be available to you.

You can repeat this technique a number of times until the phone’s cache is completely cleared. Follow the simple steps never to have problems with your iPhone storage ever again

Another battle is brewing between FBI and Apple.

  • The FBI says it can't access data on a phone used by Devin Patrick Kelley, the gunman who killed 26 people on Sunday at a rural Texas church.
  • Apple said that it contacted the FBI but it has not yet received a request for technical assistance.

Another fight between Apple and the FBI is brewing, this time over an iPhone reportedly used by Devin Patrick Kelly, the man who went on a shooting rampage on Sunday killing 26 people at a church in Sutherland Springs, Texas.

In a press conference on Tuesday, the FBI said that it hadn't been able to access data on a phone used by the gunman. The Washington Post identified the phone as an iPhone.

"They're in the process of looking at the phone," Christopher Combs, the special agent leading the investigation into the shooting, told reporters on Tuesday. "Unfortunately, at this time, we are unable to get into that phone."

Combs' comments suggest that critical clues to Kelley's motivations or potential co-conspirators remain inaccessible on his device without knowing the password.

Apple told Business Insider that it reached out to the FBI after it saw the press conference on Tuesday.

"Our team immediately reached out to the FBI after learning from their press conference on Tuesday that investigators were trying to access a mobile phone. We offered assistance and said we would expedite our response to any legal process they send us," an Apple spokesperson said in a statement.

"We work with law enforcement every day. We offer training to thousands of agents so they understand our devices and how they can quickly request information from Apple," it continued.

The fingerprint sensor might still have been able to unlock the phone after Kelley's death

The Apple spokesperson went on to confirm that law enforcement had not yet asked for any help from Apple accessing data off of Kelley's phone.

The implication is that had law enforcement contacted Apple sooner, it would have received tips and guidance that could have helped it preserve access to the data on Kelley's phone.

For example, as a security measure, the fingerprint sensor on iPhones won't work if the user hasn't used it in the last 48 hours. That suggests that for the two days after the rampage and after Kelley's death, but before the press conference, law enforcement could have used Kelley's actual finger or a copy of his fingerprint to access his phone.

Echoes of the San Bernardino showdown

The episode mirrors a fraught situation in 2016 when Apple and the FBI publicly clashed over access to an iPhone used by Syed Farook, a terrorist associated with an attack in San Bernardino.

At the time, Apple went public to fight a court ruling that ordered it to assist the FBI in bypassing critical security features on the device. But the FBI later announced that it was able to access the data on its own and dropped the court fight.

FBI officials have called for companies like Apple to build "back doors" into their technology — special ways for law enforcement to read messages and other data off of commercial smartphones.

A spokesperson for the FBI did not immediately return a request for comment outside of business hours

WARNING: One Million People Downloaded Fake WhatsApp

WARNING: One Million People Downloaded Fake WhatsApp

Got an iPhone? Then don’t stress.

According to news reports, more than one million people were tricked into downloading a fake Android app that was pretending to be an update of WhatsApp.

Tsk tsk.

Available via the Play Store – and it’s still there – the app was called “Update WhatsApp”:

However, after its illegitimacy was flagged by Reddit users (obviously), the apps’ name changed to “Dual Whatsweb Update” and its icon was also switched, reportsMotherboard.

The goal? Well, unlike many fake apps of this kind, its purpose was to create revenue through ad views:

Nikolaos Chrysaidos, a security researcher at anti-virus company Avast, has spotted a few similarly malicious apps, such as a fake Facebook Messenger app that he said was downloaded 10 million times.

You see, other fake apps that use the same technique to get downloaded are used to hack victims:

This is not the first time someone tries to deceive Android users with fake, malicious apps. The Google Play Store has long been mired by these kind of apps. But based on the number of downloads, this fake WhatsApp app is one of the most successful ever.

“Wow that *is* a lot….jeez!” Stephen Ridley, a security researcher who was one of the co-authors of the Android Hacker’s Handbook, told in a Twitter direct message.

“These things are not getting enough scrutiny […] why wouldn’t an app that has a huge number of downloads receive a little additional security scrutiny,” Ridley added in a subsequent phone call.

Just take a look at the amount of WhatsApp-branded apps that have got past Google’s curation:

Shocking. Android users, be careful out there.

Or, make things easier and just get yourself an iPhone.

This app has about 6.2 million users in Nigeria alone

Samsung has taken Apple back 10 years and ‘left them there’ in a new adverting campaign.

From queuing up in the rain, to having to leave waterlogged handsets in rice and that time they got rid of the headphone jack, Samsung has it covered.

The advert, entitled ‘Growing Up’, follows an iPhone fan upgrading their handset over a 10 year period, starting in 2007, each time poking fun at various gripes iPhone fans have.

The advert picks up on the lack of storage on the 16GB iPhone 4, it goes to bring up the whole iPhone 5S’ 4-inch display and compares it to the 5.5-inch screen of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

Then in 2016, Samsung hits out at Apple for its failure to add water resistance to their iPhone 6 models as Galaxy S7 Edge can handle being submerged without having to spend a night in a bed of dry rice.

It touches on Apple’s controversial decision to ditch the headphone jack with the iPhone 7 models and makes a point of highlighting the fact the Galaxy S8 offers customers wireless charging, something the iPhone 7 didn’t.

Then here we are, the iPhone X.

The man in the advert converts to Samsung and with his Galaxy Note 8, he is seen walking past the Apple fanatics queuing for the latest handset, shaking his head as he does so.

Watch the full advert here:

The advert has got people talking, some saying it’s brilliant marketing and ‘hilarious’ calling it a 100/10 ad, with others – Apple fans – suggesting Apple should ‘sue’ Samsung.

One man who should probably take a look at the advert is the guy who spent three days queuing outside an Apple store for the new iPhone X but was too skint to buy one after splashing out in a casino.

The ‘unidentified’ male had first dibs on the new release being sold at the Regent Street branch in London.

Because those outside the shop were given wristbands giving them an hour away from the line, he decided to spend his golden 60 minutes in the casino, where he allegedly lost all the money he was putting towards the iPhone X.

In a strange coincidence Marco Pierre White Jr became the next first person in line and bagged himself one of the phones, despite already having one.

He told Metro:

I ended up number one in the queue! My friend didn’t have enough money so he f*cked off back home.

He overspent in the casino last night and so I ended up first.

The launch of the iPhone X is making Apple its ‘biggest quarter ever’ though, which is fairly impressive.

Apple has regained its title from Samsung as the most profitable company in the world thanks to the recent earnings.

Tim Cook said on Thursday he’s feeling ‘very bullish’ about the new device and he ‘couldn’t be more excited about Apple’s future’ in a financial call transcript reported by Six Colors.

He added:

There’s always doubting Thomases out there – I’ve been hearing those for the 20 years I’ve been here. I suspect I’ll hear about them until I retire. I don’t really listen to that too much.

Apple sold 46.7 million iPhone devices in the last three months, up 14 per cent in phones sold from the quarter previous and three per cent from the same time last year.

The company’s overall revenue for the fourth quarter was $52.6 billion.
