Samsung has taken Apple back 10 years and ‘left them there’ in a new adverting campaign.

From queuing up in the rain, to having to leave waterlogged handsets in rice and that time they got rid of the headphone jack, Samsung has it covered.

The advert, entitled ‘Growing Up’, follows an iPhone fan upgrading their handset over a 10 year period, starting in 2007, each time poking fun at various gripes iPhone fans have.

The advert picks up on the lack of storage on the 16GB iPhone 4, it goes to bring up the whole iPhone 5S’ 4-inch display and compares it to the 5.5-inch screen of the Samsung Galaxy Note 3.

Then in 2016, Samsung hits out at Apple for its failure to add water resistance to their iPhone 6 models as Galaxy S7 Edge can handle being submerged without having to spend a night in a bed of dry rice.

It touches on Apple’s controversial decision to ditch the headphone jack with the iPhone 7 models and makes a point of highlighting the fact the Galaxy S8 offers customers wireless charging, something the iPhone 7 didn’t.

Then here we are, the iPhone X.

The man in the advert converts to Samsung and with his Galaxy Note 8, he is seen walking past the Apple fanatics queuing for the latest handset, shaking his head as he does so.

Watch the full advert here:

The advert has got people talking, some saying it’s brilliant marketing and ‘hilarious’ calling it a 100/10 ad, with others – Apple fans – suggesting Apple should ‘sue’ Samsung.

One man who should probably take a look at the advert is the guy who spent three days queuing outside an Apple store for the new iPhone X but was too skint to buy one after splashing out in a casino.

The ‘unidentified’ male had first dibs on the new release being sold at the Regent Street branch in London.

Because those outside the shop were given wristbands giving them an hour away from the line, he decided to spend his golden 60 minutes in the casino, where he allegedly lost all the money he was putting towards the iPhone X.

In a strange coincidence Marco Pierre White Jr became the next first person in line and bagged himself one of the phones, despite already having one.

He told Metro:

I ended up number one in the queue! My friend didn’t have enough money so he f*cked off back home.

He overspent in the casino last night and so I ended up first.

The launch of the iPhone X is making Apple its ‘biggest quarter ever’ though, which is fairly impressive.

Apple has regained its title from Samsung as the most profitable company in the world thanks to the recent earnings.

Tim Cook said on Thursday he’s feeling ‘very bullish’ about the new device and he ‘couldn’t be more excited about Apple’s future’ in a financial call transcript reported by Six Colors.

He added:

There’s always doubting Thomases out there – I’ve been hearing those for the 20 years I’ve been here. I suspect I’ll hear about them until I retire. I don’t really listen to that too much.

Apple sold 46.7 million iPhone devices in the last three months, up 14 per cent in phones sold from the quarter previous and three per cent from the same time last year.

The company’s overall revenue for the fourth quarter was $52.6 billion.

This Small Tech Company Sues Microsoft For Patent Infringement

This Small Tech Company Sues Microsoft For Patent Infringement

The patent wars between technological giants are not at all abnormal. This is the way for many to earn extra income and to ensure that their competition does not have access to technologies that are theirs alone.
The latest victim is the tech giant Microsoft, which is being sued by a small US company and only for the use of 3 patents related to LEDs, used in the flash of the camera.
The tech giant Microsoft is one of the largest patent holders in the mobile universe. It’s from here that you can get some of your income, especially in the world of Android and the companies that use it. These patents are also the way Microsoft gets agreements and partnerships to have its software present.
It is strange that the new case is, therefore, affecting Microsoft. Lemaire Illumination Technologies LLC recently filed a lawsuit in the city of Marshall, Texas. According to this the tech giant Microsoft made use of technology present in 3 patents.
Specifically, Lemaire Illumination Technologies LLC accuses the tech giant Microsoft of using in its Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL the technology in the LEDs of the flash and the way they change their color.
There is still no further information on the case and when it will be judged. There is also the possibility that the tech giant Microsoft will try to reach an agreement between them and solve the case without it reaching the courts.
This is not a normal situation because several manufacturers use the LEDs system in their equipment and with the same functions as the tech giant Microsoft’s Lumia does. Already before Lemaire Illumination Technologies LLC had started a similar process with LG and will likely move forward with others in the near future.
The Lumia 950 and 950 XL are no longer on the market but still are used by many as a daily phone, which may give some force to this process and cause the Redmond company to have to pay a large sum.

Apple iPhone X Has Already Been Jailbroken!

Apple iPhone X Has Already Been Jailbroken!

The jailbreak theme has not surfaced for a long time. The tech giant Apple has been able to do a good job of protecting its equipment, removing exploited vulnerabilities from them.

That’s why the news of the jailbreak to the iPhone X came as a surprise and is raising a lot of curiosity. It was only a few weeks before the tech giant Apple’s new iPhone was broken.
The tech giant Apple has been able to keep its operating systems safe without them having flaws that can be exploited to jailbreak. It has not been a simple task, but have been successful.
This security seems to have now fallen, and precisely in the latest versions of iOS. In the latest POC2017, held in Seoul, South Korea, KeenLab showed that iOS 11.1.1 can be exploited to jailbreak.
The proof of concept, shown live during a presentation of this conference, used one of the recent iPhone X and it was possible to see the jailbreak to be applied. KeenLab also showed that it is possible to jailbreak the beta versions of iOS 11 and iOS 10.3.2.
iOS 11.1.1 jailbreak by Liang Chen from Keen Lab.

After the jailbreak test, KeenLab has not made available any public tool so that it can be exploited and not expected to do so.
KeenLab is likely to sell the fault to other companies so they can exploit it in other contexts. It can even introduce it to the tech giant Apple, which has opened a bug-hunting program on its operating systems.
The simple proof that it is possible to jailbreak leaves some hope that other more present actors begin to look for vulnerabilities in the new versions of iOS, later made these public failures and easily usable.

Microsoft employees now get to work in treehouses and you should be jealous

Microsoft employees now get to work in treehouses and you should be jealous

Microsoft is known for maintaining a fun workplace, from its free candy to its awesome art collection. Its latest perk: treehouses.
The company announced on its blog Friday that it has created three treetop meeting spaces at its corporate headquarters in Redmond, Washington.
The treehouses were built by Pete Nelson, host of the Animal Planet series Treehouse Masters . They were constructed on the campus this summer, prompting a wave of curiosity and rumors from Microsoft employees, according to the company.

These aren't children's playhouses: they're built for work. Though intended to connect employees with nature, the treehouses are, of course, equipped with Wi-Fi and outlets for charging. One of them also features an indoor cafeteria.
But while not as isolated as they seem, the spaces are certainly cute. They feature rocking chairs and fireplaces, and benches that wouldn't be out of place on a home patio.
Let's just hope they're waterproof, and that nobody's too distracted by the birds.

This New Ransomware Not Just Encrypts Your Android But Also Changes PIN Lock

This New Ransomware Not Just Encrypts Your Android But Also Changes PIN Lock

If your phone is Android, avoid downloading any type of Adobe Flash Player software or whatever it seems to you, especially from unsafe web pages. Computer security company ESET has discovered a new type of ransomware that gravely attacks mobile phones with this operating system.
DoubleLocker is based on a banking Trojan, so in the first instance collects the bank or PayPal credentials of the users to empty their accounts or even eliminate them.
In addition, it is able to encrypt the accessibility data of the infected device and then change the PIN number. Thus, users can not access their equipment until they pay the ransom demanded by the cybercriminals.
The new PIN is set based on a random value, so it is not stored on the device or sent to another location. This is why neither the user nor a security expert can recover it. After the extortion payment has been made, the cybercriminal resets the PIN remotely and unlocks the device.
The amount of the requested bailout is 0.0130 Bitcoins and must be made within the first 24 hours. Otherwise, the data will remain encrypted but will not be deleted.
According to the company’s researchers in computer security, this is the first time Android malware has been created that combines both data encryption and PIN change.
“Due to its banking threat roots, DoubleLocker could well become what we can call ransom-bankers. It is malware that works in two stages. First, try to empty your bank account or PayPal and then lock your device and information to request the payment of the ransom. Leaving the speculation aside, the first time we saw a trial version of such a ransom-banker was in May 2017,” said Lukas Stefanko, who discovered DoubleLocker.
Ransomware spreads via fake Adobe Flash Player downloads from compromised websites and installs itself after it is granted access through the Google Play service.
Once it obtains the accessibility permissions, it activates the administrator rights of the phone and set it as a default Home application without the user’s consent.
“Establishing itself as a default startup application (a launcher) is a trick that improves the persistence of malware. Each time the user clicks the Start button, the ransomware get activated and the device gets locked again. Thanks to the use of the accessibility service, the user does not know that it executes malware by pressing Start,” explained Stefanko.
How to protect yourself from DoubleLocker?
The recommendation of Stefanko is to perform the factory reset of the device. However, it is possible to overcome the PIN lock without restarting it on connected smartphones, only if they were in debug mode before ransomware was activated. In that case, the user can connect through ADB and delete the system file that stores the PIN. This will unlock the screen and can be accessed.
You can also disable the smartphone administrator rights for the malware and uninstall it. For this, sometimes it is necessary to restart it.
