This Spit-Powered Battery Requires Just A Drop Of Saliva

The idea of spitting out your torch to get the light for 20 minutes may not be very attractive, but scientifically correct. As you can also replace saliva with dirty water to get even more energy.
The saliva or dirty water fed batteries are already a reality. A group of scientists from Binghamton University in New York, led by the researcher Seokheun Sean Choi, have developed disposable paper batteries that are recharged with dirty water or saliva. Actually, the source of energy is the bacteria that contain these liquids.
This battery has a curious origami ninja star design, which can be deployed to connect up to 16 batteries fed with dirty water or saliva. You can see it in this video:-

The battery, which is completely disposable, contains microbial energy cells that feed on the energy generated by the cellular activity of bacteria. At first, the energy obtained by this method was of the order of some nanowatt, but in five years of investigation, they have obtained a recharge of several microwatts per square centimeter. Connecting 16 batteries to each other by means of the pop-up design seen in the video, you can charge an LED flashlight for 20 minutes with a few drops of dirty water.
This improvement allows substituting the dirty water for saliva, easier to obtain although with less energetic power, generally in the saliva there are fewer microbes and bacteria than in the dirty water.
Researchers at Binghamton University have already found practical applications to this discovery. In emergency situations, for example, if you have lost yourself in a forest and your battery has run out, or it is too cold or too hot to use a standard battery, the battery powered by saliva or dirty water could be the salvation. Likewise, because of disposable paper, they are useful for making paper-based biosensors, such as pregnancy tests or HIV testing.
Seokheun “Sean” Choi and his team continue to work to perfect this technology and to generate more energy through bacteria. Reload the mobile with the water to scrub the floors? It sounds crazy, but maybe it’s not that far.

When a system update arrives on an Android device, the first reaction from many people is, “Wow, am I awake?” And the second is: “Do I have free space to download this update?”. Typically, a major update may temporarily take up to more than 1 GB of storage.
However, let me tell you people, a good news about the tech giant Google’s upcoming Android operating system update, of course, the Android 8.0 will not make you worry about your space left on your device.
According to the media channel “The Ars Technica”, the latest version of the tech giant Google’s operating system Android 8.0 documentation clearly describes a feature called “streaming updates.” Basically, this new feature simply allows a new version of the Android operating system to be installed directly on the system partition, without requiring a previous download of the entire package.
In practice, this new extraordinary feature will simply decrease the gigabyte free space requirement to just 100 KB or even less than that. As we all know that the Android 7.0 Nougat arrived with a feature that allows you to update the system in a more transparent way.
As it works like this: there are two system partitions on your smartphone; One is partition A (you can save whatever you want, and it contains the current version of the Android operating system running), and the other is partition B (a reserved place where the original Android files are stored).
Today, in order to update Android, you need to download a large package in partition A, restart the device, and then wait a few minutes for the files to be replaced in partition B.
While with the streaming updates, you can simply continue to use your smartphone normally in partition A, as the System files are downloaded and updated in the background directly in partition B. Then after the download gets over just restart and use the new version of the Android operating system.
The tech giant Google documentation also tells you that the news will be released for Android 7.0 devices through a Google Play Services update – so we’re likely to see the news even before the release of latest version of the Android operating system, of course, Android O.

Of all the messaging services that are out there, WhatsApp remains one of the most functional and feature-rich. Its Android app received picture-in-picture support a little less than three weeks ago, and a week later got access to App Shortcuts. In the latest beta version for WhatsApp’s Android app, it would appear that WhatsApp Payments will be the next feature to make an appearance.
WhatsApp Payments was spotted in the 2.17.295 beta version for the WhatsApp Android app, and as the name of this feature suggests, it will allow WhatsApp users to send money to one another within the application. The splash screen for WhatsApp Payments says that the service allows for “bank to bank transfer with UPI”, and it also mentions that you’ll need to accept WhatsApp Payments’ Privacy Policy and Terms in order to use it.
Not much else is currently known about WhatsApp Payments, but our guess is that it will allow users to send money to one another within ongoing conversations. WhatsApp’s take on peer-to-peer payments likely won’t be any different than what’s been available with services like Facebook Messenger , but it will be nice to have access to it for those that use WhatsApp as their messaging platform of choice.

Xender For iPhone still comes very much in handy in 2017. If you are an iPhone user, you are probably aware of the limitations with iOS.

One of the prominent being unable to download files. By files, i am making reference to music and video files. Being able to download pictures on the platform is still very valid.

Other than being able to download files, sending and receiving files from iPhone to other OS platform like android, can be a pain in the butt.

Jailbreaking sorta makes the experience better. However, jailbreaking voids your warranty (that’s if you still have one). So, in most cases, I wouldn’t exactly advise jailbreaking. Except you care less about your phone’s warranty.

Thanks to likes of Xender, transmitting files between Android and iOS is achievable. You do not necessarily need a computer for this. The xender app being installed on both the iOS and the Android device is enough.

Of course, there are steps in-other to make the transmission a success. Steps I’d be outlining here. First off, you should download Xender for iPhone HERE. Alternatively, search the App store for Xender and download.

Xender For iPhone – How To Connect To Android
The process is pretty simple. Although there is a guide on the app which shows you how to connect Xender for iPhone with Android, I’d like to do the same here.

Launch the Xender App on your iPhone

Now, launch the Xender app on the Android device

On the Xender for Android, tap on the Arror option. This brings up the option of either to send, or receive.

Look below the options. Tap on Connect to iOS

When the connection is complete, return back to the iPhone.

On the iPhone, Go to Settings > Wi-Fi.

Tap and connect to the Wi-Fi network starting with ADYYS…..

Return back to the sender app on the iPhone and you should get a successful connection sound.

The iPhone name should display on the Android Xender app.

Same applies to the Android Name on Xender for iPhone app.

This signifies that both devices are now connected to Xender.

At this point, you can begin transmitting files from the iPhone to the Android. You can also transfer files from the Android device to the iPhone.

Basically, you can only transmit Music files, Videos and documents between both devices. Apps excluded. That’s very much understandable.

Things To Note Regarding Transmitting Files Between Android and iPhone Via Xender
You do not need an active internet connection for this.
Files sent from Android to iPhone via Xender, stays in Xender. What this entails is, music files cannot be found on the iPhone Music library. Hence, you can only play the received music files on the Xender app.
You can download files on the iPhone via Xender. However, that doesn’t apply to system files. System files like Videos stored under the TV app cannot be deleted. These files however, can be sent via Xender for iPhone.
Best Way To Transfer Music Files To The Music Library On iPhone?
The Xender app for iPhone has an inbuilt Music and Video player. Hence, there shouldn’t be a problem with having to play received files via the app.

However, for flexibility sake, the default apps on iOS is always recommended. And since you’d like to have the files on their respective apps, using a computer is better advised.

This, you can attain using iTunes. However, if you just need to transfer specific files and not synchronize, iTransfer could come in handy.

What's This?
It's a portable projector that plays sound, and outputs an image you can interact with.

Sony's newly-launched Xperia Touch says it can convert any flat surface into a 23-inch wide touchscreen.

In practice, we found this worked pretty well, but with some caveats that we'll get into.

The Touch detects movement using an infrared light and built-in camera, essentially projecting a tablet-like experience onto a surface. 

The device runs on Android 7.0, so you can expect it to run a ton of compatible apps in the Google Play store.

Overall, the Xperia Touch was easy to use, but there were times that it wasn't as responsive as it could be.

While writing a math problem for example, the Touch misread a number:

The Touch also appears to require a purely flat surface. When we tried it on a slightly textured floor, the projected touchscreen refused to respond to any of our gestures.

You can also take the device and position it vertically to project a screen onto a wall — though the Touch does take a couple of seconds to re-calibrate itself every time you move it round.

The default projection size is 23 inches, but can go up to a maximum size of 80 inches — perfect for a home movie night — though the resolution does get noticeably less sharp at the largest size. 

Its sound quality is pretty impressive, as you would expect from a device that prides itself on its two-way stereo speaker.

It also has USB-C and HDMI Type-D input, so you can also plug your laptop or phone in, and use it as you would a normal projector that mirrors your device's screen.

The 5.3" by 5.6" device is also pretty small and portable, and I can see it getting carried around the house by kids wanting to play a game, or placed on a coffee table to watch a film in the living room.

The battery life however, does leave quite a bit to be desired.

According to Sony, it can last some "1.5 hours on intensive usage," which means if you're watching a full-length movie, you might have to plug it in halfway through. 

The company also says there has been interest in using the Touch commercially, such as in mall spaces that might want to replace their screen-based directories with a touch projection on a wall, revealed Vincent Yip, Director and Market Head of Sony Singapore.

All that said, the Touch is a pretty sweet device, and might come in handy if you'd like to take your screen into a group setting.

But is it worth the hefty $1,694 (S$2,298) price tag? I think I might just stick to my laptop and iPhone for now.
