JAMB Finally Speaks On Universities’ Cut-Off Marks, Admission Criteria

JAMB Finally Speaks On Universities’ Cut-Off Marks, Admission Criteria

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has in a statement on Sunday spoken about the new Universities’ cut-off marks, admission criteria for the 2017/2018 admission.

In a statement signed by the commission’s Head of Public Relations, Mr Fabian Benjamin, in Abuja on Sunday,  JAMB revealed that the Board had held consultations with universities across the country to enable candidates meet the requirements and secure admission without the assistance of anybody.

He also explained that JAMB will ensure fairness irrespective of tribe, religion, and that it was determined to meet the expectations of Nigerians.

He, however, made it clear that cut-off marks will be decided at a policy meeting.

“Do not allow yourselves to be defrauded by internet fraudsters, the policy meeting would commence the 2017 admission with all mode, process and acceptable conditions for admission.

“The Prof. Oloyede led management is working to ensure transparent, acceptable and fair admission process.

“We have designed software known as Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS), where human interference will be completely removed, to promote credibility.

“The admission criteria would be keyed into the software and it will select candidates blindly according to the institutions requirement without any primordial consideration,” Benjamin stated.

It would be recalled that the board had in May said it is yet to release cut-off marks for placements into tertiary institutions for 2017 academic year, contrary to some media reports.

According to the commission, the policy committee meeting responsible for the determination of cut-o marks had not met, they thus, advised candidates in their best interest to jettison cut-off marks for the various courses that are currently being paraded.

Meanwhile,  JAMB has also said  it will not condone multiple registration for Direct Entry and Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME. It has  described the act of multiple registration as a serious offence in the process of obtaining the Board’s application forms presently on sale.

The board said the warning has become imperative for people to know and understand that violation of such rule would attract sanctions.

“Candidates are to note that our advertisement for 2017 UTME clearly states the penalty for any candidate caught buying two forms.

“Members of the public are requested to note that any candidate who indulges in double registration will be caught by our software and disqualified.

“The Board is not interested in the candidates’ money as is being insinuated by certain group who suggested to the Board that such registration will enhance the revenue base of the Board.

“No, we are more interested in the credibility of the examination and not the money, if money is our concern we will not be returning over five billion naira to the Federal Government coffers,’’ the board said.

Video: ATM Hacked In 5 Minutes To Dispense ‘Free Money’
Despite warnings from the tech giant Microsoft that Windows XP is no longer supported and security updates are no longer needed urgently, ATM boxes, virtually everywhere, still have Windows XP as the base operating system.
A security researcher has now shown in a video that how a hacker can punch an ATM, hook up a cable, and infect the ATM machine with malware to get free money.

Watch Video here

In recent years many reports and cases of ATM machines have been invaded appeared. Banks have been taking care of each of the schemes but in fact, most ATM boxes continue to work with the outdated Windows XP system, making them highly vulnerable to attack.
This demonstration by Positive Technologies, which the BBC showed in the video we are about to see, requires the hacker to drill a small hole in the machine with an inch drill, remove a USB cable and physically infect the ATM machine with malware. While not the most delicate of the attacks, it is practical, according to Leigh-Anne Galloway, a security expert at Positive Technologies.
As we see in the video, the simple question “what’s inside the machine [ATM],” Galloway replied, “this is just a normal computer … it’s just a safe with a computer on top.”
After a few minutes, with the hack already perpetrated, the machine makes that familiar sound of an electronic box counting the money to be delivered to the client. Later after few seconds, the machine “spit” an amount of £20.

Multi-purpose malware
Of course nowadays, and with access to the machine that has several other valences, the malware can be used to collect credit and debit card information as well, and can spread throughout an ATM network, Galloway said.
Safety recommendations
Whether you are within our borders or anywhere in the world, always keep in mind where you raise money. Go to machines that are in busy places, but with the proper privacy. Well lit places, to verify that the machine does not have some “loose” structures, mainly in the card reader.
Always look for an ATM machine that has a surveillance camera and preferably within the banking institutions, at the airport or near the hotel where you will be staying.
If any machine has signs of being “broken in” or has signs of structural damage, avoid and look for another. So, what do you think about this? Simply share your views and thoughts in the comment section below.

Microsoft Is Paying Up To $250,000 With Its New Bug Bounty Program

Microsoft Is Paying Up To $250,000 With Its New Bug Bounty Program

If you have enough computer knowledge, then the reward programs are a good way to make money. Virtually every company has one, even some famous porn websites also have reward programs. However, it is technological giants like Microsoft who offer the most money to users for finding errors in their software.
In the case of tech giant Microsoft’s latest rewards program, Windows is the goal or rather some of its programs and services related to the operating system. The company offers up to $250,000 prize money to find and report bugs in their software, but that’s the maximum amount you can aspire to.
The previous reward programs of this firm did not offer such succulent prizes. The only drawback is that locating those errors lives up to few people if any. It is not to open windows and report that WiFi does not work, but to detect errors in the software itself.
The programmers who have created it has done the best they know, though no one is perfect. The knowledge that is at least as extensive as that of the developers is needed to see what OS fails. It is the key to this Bounty Program, where technology companies need many eyes watching the code to be able to find the line that is not 100% perfect.
The programs and services affected are as follows:-
Microsoft Hyper-V
Mitigation bypass and Bounty for defense
Windows Defender
Microsoft Edge Browser
Windows Insider Preview
In order to participate in the program, you first need to be in the slow ring of Windows Insider, a kind of permanent “beta” operating system that you can access. The rewards are higher as the difficulty increases, as it is normal, for only Hyper-V raises the bet to the aforementioned $250,000.
If you want to know the other requirements to participate, you can consult them on the tech giant Microsoft’s official website.
So, what do you think about this huge reward money? Isn’t it massive reward? Simply share your views and thoughts in the comment section below.

New WhatsApp feature will let you recall that embarrassing message you mistakenly sent

New WhatsApp feature will let you recall that embarrassing message you mistakenly sent

Apart from just regular messages, the WhatsApp recall feature is supposed to work on images, videos, GIFS, documents, quoted texts and even Status replies.

The initial report on the feature was by by WABetaInfo, a website dedicated to testing new WhatsApp features.  (WABetaInfo)
If you have ever sent out an embarrassing message and wished you could immediately revoke it, WhatsApp may be giving you the solution you want.
The Facebook-owned messaging platform will giving users the chance to recall messages after they have been sent out.

Several online publications have alluded that the feature, which has been dubbed "Recall", should be available for devices in the coming weeks.

In it's current state, WhatsApp only lets users delete messages on the device level and the messages remain visible to the recipient.

Apart from just regular messages, the recall feature is supposed to work on images, videos, GIFS, documents, quoted texts and even Status replies.

Several online publications have alluded that the feature, which has been dubbed "Recall", should be available for devices in the coming weeks.  (WABetaInfo)
It is said to work by long pressing a sent message.

However, the feature will probably work only in the case if the recipient hasn't seen the message from the sender. Also anything sent more than five minutes ago, however, is unfortunately there to stay.

The initial report on the feature was by WABetaInfo, a website dedicated to testing new WhatsApp features.

The WABetaInfo report says Recall feature will be enable in version ‘2.17.30+’ of the messaging app.

The Recall feature has long been anticipated by WhatsApp users after competitor messaging app, Telegram launched a similar feature a while back.  (WABetainfo)
Version 2.17.30 has just hit the App Stores – so hopefully not too long to wait.

WhatsApp sent out a FAQ on how the new Recall feature is expected to work.

Here are some pointers from the WhatsApp article;

You can only recall a message for up to 5 minutes after sending and once the five minutes are over you will not be able to recall a message.
Both you and your recipient must be using the latest version of WhatsApp for Android, iPhone or Windows Phone.
Recipients might see the message before you recall them or if the recall is not successful, so do it fast.
WhatsApp will notify you if a recall was not successful.
If the sender queries for a recall, you as the recipient will be notified with a “This message was recalled” message.
The Recall feature has long been anticipated by WhatsApp users after competitor messaging app, Telegram launched a similar feature a while back.

In Africa, WhatsApp reportedly accounts for over 23% of internet traffic according to the 2014 Global Internet Phenomena Report.
